3 DIY home masks for relief from acne

If you are looking for natural remedies to get rid of acne breakouts and acne scars, you need to try these homemade acne face masks. Honey is used in the face masks listed here as it hydrates your skin, promotes skin cell removal and keeps your skin soft by preserving moisture.

It’s antiseptic and antibacterial properties make it best for acne-prone skin as it reduces the redness and inflammation of acne and pimples. Raw, organic honey is better than processed honey as the latter can irritate your skin.

Useful ingredients

Other useful ingredients are apple cider, green tea, turmeric, milk and cinnamon as they help reduce acne and acne scars. Cinnamon too has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric treats skin problems with its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Green tea is full of antioxidants which fight harmful free radicals to help you maintain younger-looking and bright skin.

The lactic acid in raw milk is a gentle exfoliant which delivers anti-aging benefits while the alpha hydroxyl acids in apple cider vinegar unclogs skin pores and dissolves dead skin cells.

3 top acne face masks

Here are 3 top acne face masks, which should be applied only after removing all makeup and thoroughly washing your face. By cleansing your face, pores are unclogged, and lets the mask penetrate deep into the skin.

  1. Apple cider vinegar face mask

Put a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, two teaspoons of cooled green tea, five teaspoons of sugar and a teaspoon of honey in a bowl. Stir the mixture well and add more sugar if you want a thicker consistency.

Use a cotton pad to spread the mask on your face, and massage for a few minutes to remove the dead skin cells and improve blood circulation. The sugar here is a natural exfoliant which breaks up scar tissue and unclogs skin pores. Leave the mask on for about 10 minutes and then rinse off using water. Do this once or twice a week.

2)         Cinnamon and honey acne face mask

Place a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and two teaspoons of honey in a bowl till they blend well. Add more honey if the mixture is thick, and slather it on your face using your fingers. It’s better if the mask is applied when your face is damp, and the mask should be left for at least 10 to 15 minutes.

Rinse off using lukewarm water and apply a toner. Instead of a toner, you can also use lemon juice or a mixture of a part of apple cider vinegar and 2 parts distilled water. The mask can be used every day.

3)         Turmeric, honey and milk acne face mask

Mix a teaspoon each of turmeric powder and honey with a teaspoon or two of milk in a bowl to form a thin paste. Apply the mask on your face and neck with a makeup brush to prevent staining your nails and fingers yellow. If the mask leaves a yellowish tinge on your face, don’t worry, soak a cotton ball in milk and rub it on the stained areas. The mask can be used 2-3 days a week.
