Even men need to practice healthy skin care! - Part 2

So you’ve learnt how you should shave to look great and create a good impression in front of your date. Well, besides using the right blades and shaving the right way, there are some other things you need to bear in mind for optimum skin care in men.

Aftershave and scented products are a no-no

It is true that the number of cosmetics for men on cosmetic shelves is increasing; however not all of them are safe to use as many contain dyes and scents which aggravate a man’s skin. Just because a product is termed ‘unscented’ or ‘fragrance-free’ doesn’t imply that it does not have any fragrance.

Instead, they contain what is called ‘masking fragrances’. So if you have sensitive skin, it’s better if you go looking for products labelled for ‘sensitive skin’. Aftershave is a very big skincare offender as they tend to sting.

This is not good for those with sensitive skin at all. Instead, it’s better if you apply something light and oil-free type moisturizer when the skin is still damp.

Avoid acne triggering products

No matter what your age, there is a high chance of your suffering from acne as acne is no longer just a teen problem. It is a problem which many people carry onto, and suffer from even in their adult life.

Men generally have more oily skin than women as their testosterone hormone stimulates the production of sebum in the hair follicles. The best way to prevent an unpleasant acne breakout is by buying shaving and skincare products with the terms ‘oil-free’ or ‘non-comedogenic’.

Non-comedogenic means the product does not trigger blackheads or whiteheads while the term ‘oil-free’ means about the same. People suffering from mild to moderate acne should preferably use non-comedogenic cleansers containing salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide.

Not too much moisturizers

Many people wonder which moisturizer they should use. Well, if you have dry skin, it’s important that you choose your moisturizer carefully and apply it only when your skin is wet. It should be applied only when the skin is damp after you wash your face or after having a shower.

It’s okay to apply a moisturizer a few times a day. Just make sure that it is preferably an oil-free and non-comedogenic moisturizing lotion as creams are heavier and may end up clogging pores.

Be careful about sun exposure

Many men overlook wearing a sunscreen while outdoors. If you spend lots of time outdoors, even during the winter seasons, you expose yourself to UV radiation from the sun. This can accumulate as a cumulative dose effect and is bad for your skin.

This is why it’s better and important that men wear a moisturizer with a sunscreen in it during the dry winter months. While there are lots of good non-comedogenic lotions containing sunscreen, it’s better to apply one with an SPF of no less than 30.

These skin care tips should help you take good care of your skin so that you create a good impression with your girl. In fact, she may be surprised at how smooth your skin is, especially when compared to her!
