Skin care- cold water for relief from puffy eyes

Swollen or puffy skin around the eyes is referred to as puffy eyes and is caused by various reasons like lack of sleep, a genetic predisposition and some medications which lead to fluid retention. Even the aging process increases the puffiness around the eyes. There are however various home remedies which help get rid of this problem in a safe and natural way.

Common causes for puffy eyes are hormonal changes, hangover because of alcoholism, insufficient sleep, stress, a high salt diet and some hereditary factors. Even over sleeping may lead to puffy eyes.

Crying can also lead to strained, puffy eyes because of strong emotions. However persistent puffy eyes may indicate a serious medical condition like renal infection, and should not be neglected.   • Just splashing cold water on the face works as a great home remedy for puffy eyes. You can also wrap some ice pieces in a paper towel to place on the eyes and solve this problem.
  • Even soaking cotton balls in chilled milk or rose water helps in controlling under eye puffiness. Another option is using ice cubes prepared using rose water.
  • Try adding a teaspoon of cucumber juice to half a cup of basil tea and freezing the mixture. Then massage your eyes with the resulting ice cubes regularly to prevent and cure the bags under your eyes.
  • A popular home remedy for puffy eyes involves placing cold teabags of preferably black tea on the eyes for 5-10 minutes. This helps soothe and relax the muscles and tissues around the eyes, and thus quickens the healing process.
  • Cucumber is a known natural cure for puffy eyes; so just placing some cold cucumber slices on the eyes helps reduce puffiness and swelling. Even potato and apple slices prove to be great natural remedies which help reduce under eye puffiness.
  • An odd but effective remedy involves placing cold metal spoons on the eyes. You just need to refrigerate the teaspoons for a few minutes before placing them on the eyes. Repeat 2-3 times for complete relief from under eye puffiness.
  • You can also treat puffy eyes by placing a washcloth soaked in chamomile tea on the eyes for about 10 minutes. Even applying witch hazel under the eye lids work and treat puffy eyes the same way.
