How to avoid dry skin this winter

Winter’s settled and you see snow all around you. The natural thing to do in this climate is to put all your sunscreens away and just bundle yourself in woolies if and when you go outside. You think you need not care much for your skin nowadays as you aren’t in the sun much.

However it is this thought of yours which is wrong. You still need to care for, and pay attention to your skin in the winter, as you would for any other season. This is because there are so many harmful things that can affect your skin in winter, which you may not realize. So just take a look at this list of weather culprits so that you can keep your skin healthy even during winter season.

  • Snow- Playing in that snow, or playing snow sports can do lots of damage to your skin. In fact, just the reflection of sun from the snow can cause sunburn, premature aging and irritation. So before you head outdoors to the slopes, or make a snowman, make sure you first lather yourself with SPF!

  • Perfumes and nice-smelling lotions and soaps-Though there are some nice smelling soap and lotions you consider your favorites, you still need to take a break from using them in the winter. These products may have ingredients which may dry out your skin, which you will not notice in summer as your skin has extra humidity in it.

So before buying and using skincare products, make sure you read its labels and choose the more natural ones which do not contain fragrances and dyes. Even pH balanced products are a great choice.

  • UV rays-You may not be able to see it, but the sun still emits harmful UVA and UVB rays in winter. Though they are not as strong as in summer, they can still damage your skin. So use SPF products to protect your skin from these harmful rays when outdoors.

  • Hot showers: Hot showers feel really great during the cold, winter months. However they do not help you skin in any way! It’s better to avoid bathing in hot water as much as possible, and always moisturize after a bath.

Looking at all this, you will agree that it is more difficult taking care of your skin during winter than summer! However with the right care, you can maintain healthy and glowing skin throughout the year.
