Skin care- Take cold baths for relief from heat rashes

As mentioned in the previous blog, heat rashes usually form in humid and hot climates, especially if you wear tight-fitting clothes as they do not let your skin breathe. This thus leads to clogged skin pores which do not let sweat escape to lead to skin irritation and eventual heat rashes.

Other possible causes for prickly heat rashes are excessive sweating, wearing nylon clothes, high fever, obesity, over dressing and doing highly strenuous exercises. Even people suffering from congenital decreased or practically absent sweating and bed ridden patients are at an increased risk of developing the problem.

Heat rashes look like small skin blisters with symptoms like stinging sensation, redness, itchiness and mild inflammation which form mostly in skin folds, neck, armpits, under breasts, groin and elbow creases. Neglecting the rashes can lead to infection and pus formation, which is why it’s better to control the problem using these additional home remedies.

  • Avoid wearing synthetic and tight-fitting clothes. Wear more of light, cotton clothes which absorb moisture. Stay in the shade and avoid the sun as far as possible, and always keep your skin clean. Keep the skin clean and avoid scratching the rashes as it can lead to an infection.

  • You can also get relief by applying a paste of green henna and water on heat rashes. In case of severe and infected rashes, apply crushed Indian Lilac or neem leaves or oil to the paste. It is better if you use camphor-based preparations.

  • Of course, drinking lots of water throughout the day helps beat the heat. Also drink more of coconut water, orange juice, lime juice and buttermilk.

  • Mixing sandalwood powder in rose water to form a paste and applying to heat rash is another efficient home remedy which provides relief. After application, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off with cold water. You can also add some powdered alum for additional relief.

  • Just applying ice to the heat rashes helps provide soothing relief as ice cools and soothes the irritated skin. It thus prevents the condition from worsening. However do not apply ice directly to the skin; wrap it with a soft cloth or towel. Even taking frequent cold baths help greatly at reducing heat rashes.
  • Cocoa butter is another good natural remedy for heat rashes. Just apply small amounts of it to the rashes, but do not overdo as it can get rather greasy.

  • Last, but not least, limit your intake of alcoholic and caffeinated beverages to prevent heat rashes and other skin conditions.

With the help of these many tips, you will be able to treat your skin and get relief from heat rashes naturally.
