Watermelon -a skin home remedy for prickly heat rashes

Heat rash is rather common in hot and humid weather conditions because of blocked sweat ducts in both adults and children skin. Children are especially susceptible to the problem as they have underdeveloped sweat glands.

Its medical term is Miliaria, and causes stinging or prickling sensations, which accompanied by itching and redness. The symptoms of prickly heat usually develop on the back, around the chest, neck and underarms and its heat rash bumps are usually accompanied by redness and itching.

The most common piece of advice given for prickly heat rash is to take a shower or to apply ice packs and the let the skin air dry. Besides this, there are other ways to naturally get rid of heat rash.

  1. Mix three tablespoons of baking soda in your bath water and soak in it for about 10-15 minutes for relief from the itching of heat rashes. Let the skin air-dry after bathing as it helps at naturally healing the prickly heat problem.

 

  1. Similarly, soaking in an oatmeal bath for about 15-20 minutes twice a day is an effective remedy for heat rash. Make your oatmeal bath by dissolving a few tablespoons of colloidal oatmeal in tepid water and then adding the mixture to cold bath water. For added relief, add a few drops of lavender or chamomile essential oil to it.

 

  1. If you are not comfortable with taking an oatmeal bath, you can try cooking oatmeal in boiling water for about 10-15 minutes. Then wrap the oatmeal in a cotton or muslin cloth and place it on the affected areas to cure prickly heat rash. For better relief, dip the bundle in a bowl of cold water occasionally. Instead of a bundle, you can also stuff oatmeal in a clean cotton sock.

 

  1. Aloe Vera also helps get rid of heat rash, especially for rashes on the face. Another option is to refrigerate watermelon pulp, and rub it on your skin for a home remedy for heat rashes.

 

  1. Try using unscented talcum powder four to five times a day for relief from prickly heat rash. You can also try sprinkling baking soda or cornstarch on the rashes as it helps absorb excess moisture, and keeps the skin free from bacteria. Do avoid smearing any unnecessary thick and greasy creams or lotions on the skin.
